Eight people have been arrested in Dubai for running an illegal scheme that exploits a UAE rule that allows eligible foreign driving licence holders to obtain UAE licences without the need for lessons or tests.
Investigations revealed that the fraudsters charged AED 10,000 for each licence.
They set up offices in the UAE and offered driving licences "from a neighbouring country" without requiring their clients to travel there, learn to drive or pass any tests.
The arrests were made by Dubai Police’s General Department of Criminal Investigation, in cooperation with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Dubai Police warned that obtaining driving licences through illegal means is not merely a violation of licensing procedures, but can pose a serious threat to road safety.
They warned that those caught paying to obtain a driving licence through illegal ways could also face penalties and legal action.
Residents have been encouraged to report such illegal activities to ensure public safety.
