Dubai destroys counterfeit items in environmentally-friendly way

WAM

Dubai Customs has helped destroy 48,000 counterfeit items in the first quarter of this year.

This comes as part of the authority's efforts to combat piracy and support sustainable development.

Of the total, more than 42,000 items were fake Apple devices valued at AED861,000.

The products destroyed were also recycled, which has helped brand owners get rid of the counterfeit items without harming the environment.

In 2019, 337 IP dispute cases were opened, out of which 53 were fake ones and were valued at AED10.8 million.
